Two
scholars have been particularly helpful:
William
(Bill) Heth demonstrates how to study with integrity. He
co-authored "Jesus and Divorce" with Gordon Wenham. Then, in further
studies, he realised that they had not fully understood the text, so
he published: "Jesus on Divorce: How My Mind Has Changed"
(Southern Baptist Journal of Theology 6 (2002) 4-29
Craig Keener
demonstrates how to use background material with integrity. He has a
firms grasp of first century material in its own context so that
when he uses it to illustrate the New Testament he does so with full
understanding. His work on
divorce came to almost all the conclusions I eventually
came to, and his New
Testament commentaries are unsurpassed for their use
of historical sources.
